I’m Jonathan Knott, a journalist and writer in London. When I heard that in the 1960s the Beatles had wanted to buy a Greek island to live on, I decided to try and locate it.
My search quickly led in some very surprising directions. The names given for the island the group wanted didn’t exist on any maps. And my attempts to clarify what did happen led through a maze of financial strategies, secret services, and cold war propaganda. Exploring these unexpected paths gave me new perspectives on the Beatles, and a better understanding of what they mean for us.
To catch up on the story so far, read this recap post.
And see the links below for discussion of my research in places such as The Observer newspaper, the Journal of Beatles Studies and popular Beatles podcasts.
I also write about other topics (such as travel, politics and culture) for publications including the Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph and BBC Travel.
